Recs x2

Sep. 7th, 2006 | 10:33 pm
location: Littleton, Colorado
feeling: tiredtired
soundtrack: The Pipettes -- Tell Me What You Want

Two recs before I jet off to Nashville for the weekend:

Amazing art by remeciel: One of Remus and Sirius, one of Regulus, and one of Lily with James and Sirius in the background.  remeciel once illustrated some of my stories, and I have been eternally grateful -- I love the way the lines really make her pictures.

An awesome fic by setissma with art by linnpuzzle.  It is Ron/Draco, Bill/Harry, with a good hint of Remus/Sirius, but this story honestly transcends ships to just be funny and hot and wonderful.  Also, the characterization of Remus is beyond awesome.  I want this Remus to be in canon.

I'm still pondering the fic I mentioned.  lazy_neutrino beta-read it for me and raised a major question about one part that I am still working on.  I have been thinking about this thing forever, it is going to be perfect before I post it!

I got into the lottery for merry_smutmas!  Hooray!  I love Christmas!

Also, the fic that lazy_neutrino oh-so-kindly beta'd for me is coming along well... I should be posting it before the end of the week, just working on revisions right now.

I know, new fic from me, craziness, right??

beta anyone?

I've written something HP, and I need someone to beta it for me!

It's set in 1979, it's Remus/Sirius, it's got Regulus and Death Eaters and Andromeda Tonks and a lot of plot, not to mention three points of view.  Anyone up for that?  I know it's summertime, but when it's 1000 degrees because Al Gore was right about global warming, you might just want to stay inside and read fic!

Funny story

Whoooosh.  Graduation/my last two weeks in DC are CRAZY.  I finished with the graduation stuff and now I'm trying to finish up with the moving out stuff.  And then I have two LATE challenges to finish and another one to begin.  When I decided to sign up for challenges due in May, I was clearly insane.  BUT I WILL PREVAIL.

However, I have a funny story that I think many of you on my flist will appreciate...

At the dinner after my graduation, I was sitting with one of my best friends, my dad, my uncle, and my grandpa at the end of a long table, and we were talking about how my uncle has joined a curling league (like, that sport with the sticks and the rock and the ice... yeah, I don't get it either).

Uncle: So a few nights ago I played with the women's league because the men's league couldn't meet, and afterwards we went out to a bar.  I thought we were going to talk about the game, but no, these women were talking about the craziest thing...
Us: What?
Uncle: Apparently they're really into these... tv shows and movies... and I guess that they like to... write stories about them.  It is the weirdest thing...
Dad: Wait, what?  Stories about what?
Uncle: Like, they write stories about... what they wish would happen.
Me and my friend: *repressing hysterical laughter*
Grandpa: What???  That's really..
Dad: Um, that's really weird.
Uncle: Yeah, I know, it's really weird.  It's so weird.

Now I'm really curious to know what these women were writing about.

Have you ever woken up and realized that you wrote porn?

soundtrack: New Pornographers -- Letter from an Occupant

Oh.  Man.  I feel like I went on a wicked bender last night or something, except I don't really go on wicked benders outside of the internet.

Last Friday, I was trying to write a story for wellymuck that wasn't angsty and depressing.  I was also listening to lots of Belle and Sebastian's latest cd, The Life Pursuit, which is the perfect springtime music.  They have this song called "For the Price of a cup of Tea" and then the prompt for April 14 had to do with tea, so I wrote something -- and then had to run off to the airport to go visit a friend's family for Easter -- so I just wrote "To be continued" even though I had no idea where it was going.

That's part one.

Then I had to attend a lot of church and do a lot of homework, and I didn't get around to writing part two until last night... more specifically, 5 am early this morning...

I woke up this morning at 11 and staggered downstairs to eat cereal with my housemates.  My hair was sticking up, there were dark circles under my eyes, and my pjs were disheveled... Yep, I'd somehow, in the blackest hours of the night, written the most explicit porn I have ever even contemplated writing.  Amazing how those inhibitions just fall away.

Part Deux.

Well, gosh, who could have predicted it?  I posted to wellymuck for the April 9 prompt.  Hopefully this will mark the beginning of a 2/3 of a month long beautiful partnership/homework diversion.

Go check it out, it's post-HBP and suitably angsty -- I really took a lot of care with word choice, and I like it a lot.

Ok, now must feverishly finish an essay and then go to see Art Brut.

remixes revealed, challenges taken, wellymucks... verbed

Apr. 8th, 2006 | 11:36 pm
location: Washington, DC
feeling: cheerfulcheerful
soundtrack: Pixies -- Dig for Fire

Turned in the thesis rough draft; am slowly accepting that I am going to Oxford in the fall; still have a TON of homework to do before graduation; cheerfully signed up for more challenges anyway!  Yep, I think that about sums up real life.  Escapism is the name of the game over here.  I should be at neatokates birthday party, but it's cold and I'm whiny.  Maybe I'll go in a little bit... but first...

1. Remix identities... penknife wrote the Snowstorm Remix... I find this awesome, because the story that I wrote suddenly has so much more depth after you add in hers!  If that makes any sense. kabeyk, who I'd never heard of before, wrote the remix to the Long Road Home.  I loved loved LOVED it, so I headed over to her lj... turns out that she's quite handy with writing the NC-17 (clearly, my mind went STRAIGHT for the gutter when I got there and I haven't read anything else, I'm sure she's handy at all of it).*

2. Three challenges:
a. This, I dunno what's it's called, but I'm writing Good Omens fic for the first time ever.
b. This, again, don't really know the name, but I think it's pornographic! (AVERT YOUR EYES)
c. Finally, hp_summersmut, which is in fact a community, despite what that icon seems to think.  GO SIGN UP, it's still open!  Until April 15!

3. Finally, there is wellymuck, yet another of these Remus/Sirius seasonal communities that I love so well.  I'm going to attempt to do a few, and you should too!

*OMG I LOVE remixes!  I can't wait to do more!!!!

Ok, I am going to neatokates's party.  Look out, Saturday night, here I come!

soundtrack: Esthero -- Wikkid Lil Girls

Ok, so this is kind of awesome:

Apparently my remix person seemed like they weren't going to come through, but then they did, so I got both the true remix and then a pinch hit remix!

This is awesome!

Anyway, here they are.  I haven't had a chance to read them yet because my thesis rough draft is due on Monday (and is only about 2/3 done), but I plan on reading them on Monday night as a "Congratulations, you turned in your thesis rough draft!" present to myself.  Please go read them and enjoy!  And leave comments for these awesome people!
